ABOUT THE LOGO
THE COLOR RED
In the liturgy, red is used for Pentecost and Feast of Martyrs. It is the color of fire. Tongues of fire appeared during the first Pentecost—marking the birth of the Church and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
It is also the color of blood and sacrifice, signifying the shedding of one’s life in witness to the faith.
The color red also invites us to respond to the call of mission we have received in baptism and confirmation. It is the color of urgency — admonishing us to witness the faith in the here and now of life.
THE TWO HANDS
The Old Testament refers to the hand of God as a symbol of his saving power. “The LORD has bared His holy arm in the sight of all the nations, So that all the ends of the earth may see the salvation of our God.” (Isaiah 52:10)
The hands also represent our faith that is lived out not only by words but more so by our actions. They are seen as reaching out to one another, representing the communal aspect of the mission.
THE CROSS
The cross is the primary symbol of our faith. As the country celebrates the fifth centenary of Christianity, the jubilee calls for a renewal of our nation’s faith by bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who still do not know him.
The cross is also the greatest expression of God’s undying love for humanity. Therefore, “every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus” (CBCP Pastoral Letter for the 2021 Year of Missio Ad Gentes).
THE HEART
The heart calls to mind the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The love of God moves us to cherish the faith that has been handed down to us as a gift from countless missionaries who evangelized our nation. “This giftedness…must also enflame the hearts of all of us today to engage in the mission” (CBCP Pastoral Letter for the 2021 Year of Missio Ad Gentes): that is to love our neighbors—to offer ourselves just as the Lord did, so that, “won over to the open heart of the Savior, all might draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation.” (Preface of the Sacred Heart).
